Environment

ARL recognises its responsibilities as a company and concerns itself with both the long and short-term effects of its business in relation to the environment. We are committed to minimising the effect that our operations have upon the environment and are committed to striving for continual improvement in environmental performance.

ARL meets all environmental regulations, laws and codes of practice as a bare minimum of operating procedures and exceeds these standards wherever possible. Whilst we welcome the introduction of legal measures, we appreciate that real progress on environmental issues can only be made through the actions of individuals and organisations.

As a member of the ‘Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners’, the City Livery company dedicated to our industry, we aim to live up to its motto ‘Tergere est Servare’ (To clean is to preserve). To this end we have adopted a positive policy to promote a practical day-to-day commitment to the environment, which permeates throughout the organisation and is reflected in the way we work, the materials and machinery we use, purchase and dispose of.

Waste Management

Where possible we will actively cut down the use of environmentally damaging products and recycle the waste we create thereby reducing environmental pressures from waste disposal by:

• Using recycled paper wherever possible
• Recycling of all office paper
• Recycling of all office printer cartridges
• Ensuring all waste is carefully disposed of
• Using systems of work which enable electronic trading with our suppliers and clients wherever possible, in order to reduce paper consumption and waste

Noise

We are committed to a quiet environment, and fully appreciate that for our clients in residential areas there are times of the day when noise must be kept to an absolute minimum.

Vehicles

All our vehicles are diesel operated and careful consideration is always given to route planning to minimise our fuel consumption and emissions. At the end of their lease we seek to replace all vehicles with ones that give a lower carbon dioxide emissions and greater fuel economy.

Purchasing Policy

We believe it is important to continuously review the effect of our purchasing practices. We aim to purchase products, which are low polluting, recycled, ozone friendly, energy efficient, reusable, durable, not tested on animals, and are purchased in bulk wherever possible to cut out unnecessary packaging.

Training

All ARL employees are informed of our environmental policy during their induction training and are updated on this during regular company meetings and periodic training refreshers.
